About Smitha
Twist of Tradition is led by Smitha Bobby Thomas — a Pharmacist, researcher, wife, mother, and saree artist based in Austin, Texas.
Smitha's love for sarees began in childhood, watching her mother drape six yards of silk with effortless grace. That childhood fascination grew into a calling — helping the women of Austin and Central Texas feel elegant, confident, and deeply connected to their heritage. Every pin is placed with intention. Every pleat is measured for symmetry. The goal is always the same: a drape secure enough to dance in for twelve hours, and beautiful enough to take your breath away.
I am not just draping fabric — I am engineering confidence.

Absolutely. Saree draping has found its place at multicultural weddings, cultural festivals, photoshoots, and formal galas. If you are wearing a saree for the first time or styling one for a non-traditional occasion, we welcome the conversation.
Absolutely — first-time wearers are some of our favorite clients. Smitha's approach is warm, patient, and unhurried. We use pre-pleating and modern securing techniques so you can move, breathe, and dance comfortably for the entire event.
Pre-pleating means the saree's pleats are set and structured before your appointment, so they are crisp, symmetrical, and secure from the moment the draping begins. It reduces pinning time and ensures the drape holds beautifully — even through 12 hours of dancing.
Yes — through our pre-pleating and boxing service, we can set a saree with permanent, perfect pleats and ship it anywhere in the United States. Contact us to learn more about this service.
